Our Mediators

Tina Martinez

With nearly two decades of legal practice spanning family law, real property, criminal defense, probate, banking, finance and municipal law, Tina brings exceptional breadth and depth to the mediation table. She founded Luminary Mediation, LLC to offer parties in conflict a thoughtful, skilled, and neutral path forward — one grounded in legal expertise, genuine empathy, and a deep commitment to resolution.

A Colorado native, Tina built an early career in commercial banking, where she served as a Private Banker and Vice President of Commercial Loans before earning her MBA and Juris Doctorate. She went on to serve as General Counsel for Rocky Mountain Capital and its wholly owned subsidiary Rocky Mountain Bank, advising on loan workouts, secured transactions, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and banking regulations — experience that gave her a sophisticated command of complex financial and business matters.

Over the course of her legal career, Tina has represented clients across an extraordinary range of matters — from domestic relations to criminal defense, social security, guardianship, probate, real estate, and municipal law. She has served as a Deputy District Attorney, Criminal Defense Counsel, Guardian Ad Litem, and Respondent Parent Counsel, giving her firsthand experience on every side of the table. This breadth of perspective is one of her greatest strengths as a mediator: she understands the human stakes behind every dispute, not just the legal ones.

Tina is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Wyoming and is also a licensed Colorado Real Estate Broker Associate — a background that gives her particular fluency in mediating real property and business disputes alongside family and civil matters.

Her approach to mediation reflects everything she has learned across courtrooms, boardrooms, and kitchen tables: that people in conflict deserve to be heard, that creative solutions are almost always available, and that a skilled neutral can make all the difference. Tina is known for her calm presence, sharp analytical mind, and genuine ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Tina has called the San Juan Mountains home for over a decade. When she's not working, you'll find her trail running with her dogs Aspen and Puck in the backcountry, swimming, or cycling.

Founder & Mediator

Heather Hoechst

With over a decade of experience resolving disputes in complex areas of law- such as family law, disability rights, child welfare, and civil legal services, Heather co-founded Luminary Mediation to provide competent and empathetic mediation services with the goal of empowering individuals to resolve conflict and move beyond it.

Heather’s path to mediation is grounded in direct legal service. Early in her career, as a domestic violence attorney, she developed a holistic, client-centered approach to resolving multi-faceted and emotional disputes. After relocating to the Southwest, Heather provided civil legal services on the Navajo Nation- representing clients in diverse matters such as social security, consumer protection, guardianships, protection orders, and public benefits. She later joined an organization focused on protecting the rights of Native Americans with disabilities, where she expanded her expertise to include special education, school discipline, and child welfare work. In addition to her public interest work, Heather practiced as a domestic relations attorney in Southwest Colorado, where she experienced the power of mediation to help families navigate conflict while preserving relationships.

Heather’s diverse experiences have proven both challenging and rewarding, ultimately teaching her to manage high-stakes, emotionally charged situations with clarity, fairness, and cultural sensitivity. At the heart of Heather’s practice is a belief that every person deserves a voice in resolving their own conflict- and that lasting resolution comes when parties are empowered to craft their own creative solutions. She offers a neutral compassionate space for those seeking this type of alternative dispute resolution.

In addition to her direct legal work, Heather has served as an arbitrator with the Philadelphia Arbitration Center and as a hearing panel member for the New Mexico Supreme Court Disciplinary Board.

Heather has called the Four Corners home for the past ten years and loves to explore the beautiful mountains and deserts that surround her. When she's not working, you'll most likely find her running, biking, or backpacking the local trails.
